Although there are new GLP-1 medications such as Retatrutide that can result in a weight loss of up to 30% what is important for overweight individuals to understand is that GLP-1 use is not only good for losing weight but for also gaining health. Because weight loss can dramatically help lower 3 of the most important metabolic factors that determine health: blood pressure, blood lipids ( cholesterol and triglycerides) and blood sugar, they should be followed on a regular basis as closely as weight loss helping you to be healthier and lowering your risks for heart disease, stroke, or diabetes. I suggest that along with measuring weight loss, blood pressure, blood lipids and blood sugars they should also be measured and followed frequently . Weight loss may also help to reduce the amount of medications one takes, but your medications should not be changed, despite significant weight losses, without a medical evaluation. Individuals can often get carried away with their weight loss, but a healthy and stable weight cannot be maintained without changing one’s behavioral eating patterns in a permanent manner. Changing one’s eating behavior, less snacking, smaller portions, and less alcohol etc. and improving one’s metabolic parameters will certainly help one to become thinner, feel better and be healthier.
